BOOKS "A Book" byDesi Arnaz (autobiography) Published in 1977. EXECUTIVE POSITIONS Desi Arnaz's position in Desilu Studios made him the executive producer of "The Lucy Show", and he was also the producer of Lucy and Desi's final film together, "Forever Darling". Being the president of Desilu, he also had production rights and privileges for the filming and broadcasting of several other television shows, including "The Untouchables" - many shows, which were Desilu productions. TELEVISION "I Love Lucy" was Desi's main fling in television, of course. He produced the show, and would later own Desilu Studios with many more television shows for his production qualities. Less important or significant television shows he played simple roles in was "The Mothers-In-Law" which aired on television from 1967-1969 in which Desi played Raphael del Gado. This was an "extensive" guest appearance for Desi, the show was a sitcom, but definitely not a seller. The show, in fact, starred Eve Arden, a former Desilu client. RADIO Desi appeared a few times on radio programs with wife Lucy, one of which was Suspense, not to mention "Your Tropical Trip" and many others which featured Desi Arnaz and his Orchestra. BROADWAY "Too Many Girls" was Desi's first film role, and it was a memorable broadway performance for him too. Amidst other plays, Desi despised the director of this one, and noted how many actors and actresses need not any talent to have been in such productions. |
F I L M S Desi was not a successful actor in a sense that Hollywood never had distributed his image in a way so that he was a big star. He rarely got acting jobs or offers, sometimes because of his strong accent at the time, and due to the fact that he was not as popular as other male stars. Desi truly belonged in nightclubs amongst the music. His first film was "Too Many Girls", and one of his most acclaimed film performances was in "Bataan". Such films as "Cuban Pete" and "Holiday in Havana" did not show a very successful side to Desi's film career, however, they implemented the fact that Desi was successful at music. |
